The story of Voorstekraal Learning Centre is one of fortitude, community, and hope. In 2020, during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic, Lolita Kroukamp—a lifelong resident of Voorstekraal—was approached by local parents in need of a safe place for their children while they worked on nearby farms.
With only the space she could provide in her own home, Lolita began caring for a small group of children. Despite the limitations, this makeshift daycare quickly became a hub for families seeking care and early education for their young ones.
Over time, as the need for early learning services has grown, the centre moved to larger premises, but only temporarily. Today, Voorstekraal Learning Centre operates from a modest, enclosed porch within a respected community member’s home. Although limited in space and resources, the centre remains a vibrant place where children come to learn, grow, and play.
At Voorstekraal, our plan is to develop -- in phases -- a purpose-built centre that will provide a stable and nurturing learning environment for every young child in our community. A place where each child can feel at home, discover their unique potential, and begin a lifelong journey of learning. With a permanent space, we can expand our programmes, support more families, and ensure no child is left behind due to circumstances beyond their control.
